Sunriver Resort

The land under Sunriver Resort has been claimed twice — first as a meeting ground for Native Americans and later by explorers including Peter Skene Ogden, Kit Carson, and John Fremont, then as Camp Abbot, a World War II Army combat construction training ground. The camp closed in 1944; the officers' club, built from native logs and stones, still stands as the Great Hall. Today the resort holds three golf courses — Meadows, Woodlands, and Crosswater, the last ranked among Golf Digest's 100 greatest — along with a spa, and sits 15 miles south of Bend.
