Meeting hall built 1892-93 by Richard Sharp Smith and funded by George Vanderbilt for the African American men who built the Biltmore Estate; commissioned after leaders Isaac Dickson and Dr. Edward S. Stephens approached Vanderbilt in 1892. Purchased outright from Vanderbilt by YMI directors in 1906 for $10,000; saved 1980 by coalition of nine Black churches.
