New Dungeness Lighthouse

Five miles out on the Dungeness Spit, where the land narrows into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, stands the New Dungeness Lighthouse — reachable only on foot or by water. Volunteers with the New Dungeness Light Station Association have logged more than 100,000 hours keeping it since 1994, and the keeper program lets you spend a week doing the same: minor maintenance, tours for hikers who made the walk. Few historic sites ask that much of you. Fewer reward it.
