Wall Drug Store

Good forFamiliesFood & drink loversHistory buffs

Ted Hustead bought a drugstore in a 231-person town he called "the middle of nowhere" in 1931. His wife Dorothy's idea — advertise free ice water to travelers heading toward Mount Rushmore — turned a struggling Depression-era pharmacy into something drawing two million visitors a year. Wall Drug now spans nearly 50,000 square feet of retail space. The free ice water still flows. So does the coffee, at five cents a cup.
